Resolutions of a Shepherdess

Resolutions of a Shepherdess

I know some people like to think of the New Year as a reset - out with the old and in with the new - but that doesn’t quite fit with me and my style. Instead, I think of each year as a continuance, though I like to take pause every January to evaluate what’s working and what new things I’d like to try. Now that lambing is wrapping up and I can breath again time to focus on myself and some business planning.

Instead of a traditional list of resolutions, here is my list of things I want to keep doing, some reflections, and also a few new things I’d like to focus on for 2026. It’s a mix of things that apply to our small business but also to me personally. I hope this list can both inspire you and also share some excitement for the year ahead.

CONTINUE
To focus on a good night's sleep! Using the wool bedding that's in our shop has allowed me to not only test our products so they can be the best they can be, but also help me get a good, truly restful sleep. Research has shown that using wool bedding, either mattress pads or duvets, can increase REM sleep by up to 25%, compared to cotton/acrylic blends, and also provide more thermal insulation and moisture buffering (this has also been a huge benefit for our kids’ sleep too!). Although I don’t think I’m quite ready for mouth taping, I love the idea of trying to spend 20 minutes in the sun each morning to regulate my internal clock as I look for more ways to get the best sleep possible.

CONTINUE
To work with other local wool businesses to broaden the ways wool can be used. I am excited to do what I do because it allows me to bring new and innovative ways that you, our customers, can use and benefit from wool. And I couldn’t do that alone! Our partners have been great, and I’m excited to see what we can work together on in the upcoming year. This includes other Canadians like Lindsey at WoolGrown Company, who helps me bring ideas to life, and Sasha at Ste.Marg.Scot who uses our wool as the lining in coats is so many amazing colours!

REFLECT
Last spring I had the amazing opportunity to attend the International Wool Textile Organization (IWTO) Congress in Lille, France; the experience was surreal! When I returned home, we dove straight into CNE mode (you could say we started a residency in TO last summer) and then holiday mode. I never had the chance to really soak in everything that I had learned at the Congress. It was truly an adventure of a lifetime, and I want to take some time this winter to reflect on what I learned, how it applies now after some months have passed, and take advantage of the global relationships and connections.

START
Finding a little more time for self care this summer when we’re in the heat of it all (literally!). Growing up locally and having a small business has let me connect with other like minded women in business. Although our passions differ, it all dwells down to supporting local and growing from the land we call home. With that, and ‘me time’ in mind, this summer I can’t wait to escape for a few hours out of my day to visit Tullamore Lavender Co, when lavender is in bloom, and build my own bouquet at Mapleton Acres

START
You may remember my blog post from last spring, that highlights how I manage our garden and how our family thinks about and plans our food. This is an annual tradition that’s been generational in our family, but this year I want to take greater advantage of what beautiful Wellington County has to offer that is beyond what we produce on our farm. If you’re interested in exploring more too, the County’s Taste Real webpage has a great list of places to get started in all seasons.

One of the greatest things about Revolution Wool Company is not only that I get to share the outstanding benefits of pure Canadian wool with others, but that I get to connect with you - our customer! I’ve learned so much about how others use wool in their everyday life, how it feels that they trust our products, and getting to hear new ideas of how to harness the power of wool

We’ve got big things coming in 2026 and I can’t wait to share them with you!

Until then,
