How to Use a Wool Topper for Your Bed

Our pure wool mattress pads are simple and easy to use. The felted 100% wool mattress pad holds itself together and has enough grip on it to prevent it from sliding around on your bed. No extra cover or elastics needed. Just pure wool, working its wonders.

Simply place the pad on your mattress and cover with your favourite all natural sheets. Place the fluffier side down towards the mattress with the more firm, patterned, side up. If you are worried about spills or moisture (kids or pets) add a mattress protector between your wool pad and fitted sheet. Using a wool mattress topper will help extend the lifespan of your mattress.

When you buy a Revolution wool product, you support Canadian farmers. As always 100% proudly grown, milled and made locally in Ontario, Canada!

Care Guide

Caring for a wool mattress topper is easy. Please ensure you follow these instructions as carefully as possible, it is important to always use only lukewarm water, be gentle, and never agitate wool. This will cause the wool to felt and become clumpy.

Always use quality bedding and sheets to cover and help protect the wool mattress pad. Because wool is self cleaning, naturally resisting odours, bacteria and allergens, you don't need to wash your mattress pad unless it gets heavily soiled or spilt on. Avoid washing your mattress pad unless absolutely necessary and try doing a gentle spot wash on any soiled areas first (gently soak the area in a sink like described below).

Regular Care for Your Wool Topper

Every few months air out your wool mattress topper in the sunshine or fresh air (washing the rest of your bedding at the same time is a good idea!).

Some of the natural oils from the sheep remain in the wool after processing, so you may notice a gentle scent. Tip: We love adding a few drops of essential oils for some added freshness!

Deep Clean for Washing Your Wool Mattress Topper

  1. Fill a large sink or bathtub with lukewarm water adding a small amount of wool specific detergent like our Eucalan soap.
  2. Fold your wool mattress pad together with the softer/ fluffier side inwards to allow for easier maneuvering.

Please note: it is important to keep the softer side inwards as it has looser wool and needs to be folded to help maintain the structure of the wool
  3. Gently press your mattress pad into the water to submerge. Allow it to soak for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Repeat a gentle pressing and squashing motion up and down in the water. Ensure you never agitate wool, this will cause the wool to felt or come apart.
  5. Repeat as needed until the water runs clear.
  6. Wool holds an amazing amount of water. Let as much drain off on its own and try not to lift the pad as this may pull apart the structure of the wool.
  7. Gently fold together and squeeze out as much water as possible. Use a bowl or tub, to avoid dripping, and move to an outdoor area or in an area where the floor is ok to get wet. Carefully hang and allow to air dry.

Please ensure you follow these instructions as carefully as possible, it is important to always use only lukewarm water and be gentle and never agitate or rub the wool. This will always cause the wool to felt and become clumpy or break away.
